Triggered
This project is an exploration of fear, survival, and the raw emotions that are provoked in moments of life-threatening danger. To simulate a real-world feeling of anxiety and doom, I rigged a camera to shoot directly down the barrel of a prop gun to position the viewer in the bullet’s perspective. This unique setup enhances the visceral, confrontational nature of the work by drawing the audience into the heart of the action and inducing a feeling of dread.
The heavily vignetted edges mimic the tunnel-like focus that occurs in moments of extreme stress or danger. In capturing the exact moment when the subject anticipates a bullet’s impact, I want to unearth the primal and instinctual reactions that are often suppressed in everyday life. My intention is for the viewer to feel the visceral rush of adrenaline and reflect on the fragility of life in the face of such a ubiquitous weapon of destruction. By triggering a feeling of unrest, I hope to force the viewer to grapple with their own concepts of fear, power, and survival, and to question the pervasive impact of violence in society.
